The Essex Sports Awards, hosted by sportessex, celebrates and recognises the very best in sport within the county and the people, who participate, support its provision and invest personally in its ongoing development.

The Essex Sports Awards has been recognising talent across community and professional sport since the 1990s. With the BBC coming on board in 2006 however, the awards took on the official format that we see today, with its winners being automatically nominated for the BBC East Regional Sports Personality of the Year Awards.

As well as the winners of the county awards being automatically nominated for the Regional Awards, sportessex is working hard to establish local awards in each Local Authority with Rochford, Harlow and Brentwood all hosting affiliated sports awards – with the winners of each being automatically entered in the county awards. Creating what is termed the 'talent recognition pathway' from the grassroots through to the international stage.
