Landé Fourie Karate

Landé Fourie exemplifies what it means to fall in love with a sport. As an instructor she is highly regarded; Lande runs the Colchester Karate Club which caters for pupils aged 3 to 72 and has created the Character Building with Life and Safety Skills for Children programme, helping to give local young people the life skills they need. For the recent Karate World Championships in South Africa, a squad of 15 children from the club were picked and Lande spent over a year raising money and sponsorship for them to attend. However Lande herself is also an international athlete and after breaking her arm in competition Lande was forced to take two and a half years out of competition. However as her students competed in South Africa this year, Lande was there to compete as well. At her first competition back in action she won gold medals in individual kata, team kata, and team kumite, and a silver medal in individual kumite. Lande Fourie truly is an all round great sportsperson.

Chloe Rogers Hockey

Chloe has recently returned from the European Championships in Holland where she and the rest of the England Women's Hockey team gained a Bronze medal. She is now training at Bisham Abbey in the build up for the 2012 Olympics.

Chloe also tries to give some of her experience back to young people to inspire them through her work as a Team Essex Ambassador, visiting schools, colleges and clubs in Essex, giving presentations promoting sport and hockey and coaching sessions.

In January this year Chloe played for Chelmsford ladies indoor team in the national league beating some top teams, but unfortunately missed out on the final. An all round sports person, Chloe is also Braintree golf clubs ladies champion, and plays for Essex ladies when she can make the dates.

Joanne Harten Netball

A finalist in the Harlow Sports Awards, Joanne Harten is an athlete with a busy schedule, managing to combine studying for her degree in International Relations at Loughborough University with her training and competition for both the England U21 and full national netball teams. Earlier this year Joanne played in her first full game for the national squad in a test match at the O2 arena against Jamaica, her skill for the game shone through as she was named player of the match. Joanne was also selected to be part of the England Netball Squad who played in the recent World Netball Series at the M.E.N Arena finishing in fourth place. Joanne is a grounded young person and never forgets her local netball club where she takes time to catch up with the squad whenever she is at home, providing inspiration to all young netballers.
