JJ O'Leary Football

JJ is proof that sport is a vehicle that turns lives around. Devoting 9 hours a week of his own time, JJ volunteers with the Kickz Project in Harlow. Not only has JJ passed the FA Level 1 coaching badge, he actively takes part in the project's Steering Group meetings and has been described as an 'excellent mentor' to the young people he helps to coach. As a result of his involvement with the project and the volunteering hours he has contributed, JJ has career aspirations of becoming a full time coach. It is through his hard work, passion and determination that JJ won the Young Community Volunteer of the Year at the Harlow Sports Awards 2009.

Ian Cornell Football

Ian's introduction to volunteering came through the FA Step into Sport programme which is aimed at developing the next generation of football volunteers. Having already completed 106 hours of voluntary work for Forest Glade FC, Ian is a committed volunteer and has progressed to become a respected coach of the Under 14 side. Not only does Ian provide help on the pitch, but he has also provided assistance at events held by the Essex FA, such as Chartered Standard Tournaments. Ian is a valued member of the club and it is clear that through his inspirational efforts other young people are bound to follow in his footsteps.

Holly Monk Gymnastics

Although Holly was a late starter to gymnastics, her enthusiasm, creativity and determination for the sport have marked her out as one to watch for the future. Holly initially began volunteering at the session before her own gymnastics class. However, Holly's enthusiasm and growing confidence in her own abilities have led her to volunteer for all three sessions on a Saturday for just over a year. Holly's community spirit knows no bounds and she has often been involved in fundraising for her club by baking cakes for a raffle and performing dance routines to entertain the crowd. Holly has already given so much to her sport and it is clear that gymnastics is a sport she will be involved in for years to come.
